What do we use your data for?
Data is collected to ensure the proper functioning of the website and to receive information on the use of this site for the purpose of monitoring its relevance and improving the website.
Which data is collected?
The website provider automatically collects and stores information in ‘server log files’. These are:
• Browser type and browser version
• Operating system used
• Referrer URL
• Host name of the accessing computer
• Time of the server request
• Anonymous IP address
These data will not be combined with data from other sources. In addition, data is collected for statistical purposes (see point 3.2).
The basis for data processing is Art. 6 (1 e GDPR, which allows the processing of data to fulfil a contract or for measures preliminary to a contract.
3.1. General
The Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH is a public-benefit federal enterprise for international cooperation. We work as a federal enterprise under private law. Our aim is to achieve the development-policy objective of improving the living conditions of people worldwide and conserving the natural resources on which livelihoods depend.
3.2. Tracking user data on a website
To analyse usage data on its website, GIZ uses the Matomo web analysis service operated by Klartext Media & Promotion UG hosted Server in Frankfurt am Main. Data is stored and evaluated anonymously. The data generated with Matomo is processed and stored by Matomo on behalf of Sanitation for Millions in Germany only. You can contact the Sanitation for Millions programme by using the contact information provided in the imprint.
The data connected to your request will be stored and processed by the Sanitation for Millions programme for the sole purpose of responding to your request. Data is processed on the basis of Article 6 (1 b) of the GDPR.
3.4. Social media plug-ins
If you visit YouTube via a link on our website, a connection to the YouTube servers is established. We are using the privacy-enhanced mode meaning that no advertising data will be send to YouTube Double Click. If you visit the YouTube website, the data protection rules of YouTube will apply.
If you visit Twitter via a link on our website, a connection to the Twitter servers is established. If you visit the Twitter website, the data protection rules of Twitter will apply.

Your data is not shared with third parties.

Your data is not transferred to third countries.
5. Retention of data
Personal data are regularly deleted when
• they are no longer needed for contractual purposes
• purpose for its storage no longer pertains
• when you request its deletion or revoke your consent for its storage
• at the end of the project, when statutory data storage obligations and periods have expired
6. Protection of minors
Persons under the age of 16 may not transfer any personal data to us without the consent of their parents or legal guardians.
7. Reference to user rights
You are entitled to:
• object to data processing,
• enquire about your personal data and its processing
• have this corrected if necessary, or to request restriction of processing or the erasure of the data
The data will then be erased.
